Doing It Myself: Dresser to TV Console

Last month, I asked you guys what color would best tame the purple chairs that were taking over our living room.

The overwhelming vote was for Urbane Bronze (the color on the left). When I got a sample and tried it out, it was really blah. I didn’t like it.

So I went back to the drawing board and ended up with Pantone Timberwolf, which is a taupe gray with really warm undertones.

Not only am I in love with the color, but the dresser as the TV console fits the space perfectly. There are six very well appointed drawers that provide more than enough space for all our unsightly clutter. And there is a ton of that.

I used a chalk paint recipe that I found on Pinterest. Chalk paint isn’t just for achieving that shabby chic finish.

I love the use of a dresser rather than a TV stand. The height is perfect. The storage is unmatched. And the room feels much more finished with a more substantial piece of furniture in that area.

I was watching Steven and Chris. I love those guys!

So how did I do with the revamp on this free, hand me down dresser? Did I choose the right color to compliment the chairs? What do you think?

Out with the Blue

livingCollageI’ve been busy totally changing the colors in my living room.

I think I may have decorating ADD.

Awhile ago I fell in love with this pillow and it’s colors.

I immediately started buying up accessories in this color palette and even made two paintings featuring the color.

But I didn’t like it. It clashed.

The purple chairs were standing out like a sore thumb with such another loud color next to it.

So when I found this pillow and fell in love for the second time, it all started to come together in my mind.

And so we go from this:

To this:

It’s a much more (dare I say it) sophisticated palette that works with the purple people eaters (my affectionate nickname for our ginormous purple chairs). It’s muted and toned down. And I like it.

There are still a few blue accessories that I’m relocating, since my bathroom is in that color palette.

My gallery wall is coming together. I’m planning to add these floral prints to the wall next.

I finally feel positive about the direction my living room is headed. Hopefully this will be a long term change!

Living Room Finishing Touches with JCP

finishing touches Collage

I have been dreaming about adding the finishing touches to my living room for awhile now. Our main living area has come a long way, but it’s those last little details and pieces that I know are going to make it feel finished.

Now, this is not a sponsored post, I just love JC Penney. It was my mom’s choice to shop for almost all of our clothes. Back then, their home decor was lacking and pretty old fashioned. They have done a total upgrade and I love their selection of home decor items.

Our living room is missing a couple of key pieces. Side tables and more substantial lighting being the two major things. I love the sleek look of the Jonathan Adler Lamp. And the side table also happens to be Jonathan Adler. I guess I’d have to say that I’m pretty drawn to his pieces.

I really can’t wait to finish my living room and add the pops of color and larger pieces that will make it feel complete. And I think a trip to JCP is necessary.

Are you loving anything from JC Penney? What do you think of the Jonathan Adler collection?
