Bedroom Corner

I haven’t figured out how to get things done with three kids in the house. I can steal a few moments here and there but for the most part — my life is all about them right now.

And I don’t mind.

Time with them is much more important than finishing my bedroom.

Even still — I’ve managed to get a small corner of our bedroom together. For now anyway.

This particular corner has been empty for the past two years. And I just havent found the right thing to go here. I’ve imagined a desk, a settee or even two chairs with a table between them. This rocking chair is a place holder until I find that thing that makes me look twice.

For now — I put a rocking chair found on the side of the road years ago and painted gray and a cheapie wooden table from Garden Ridge that I painted blue like my mirrors.

I also hung my curtains — finally. It’s amazing how curtains can totally change the look and feel of a room.

Also on the wall you can see a piece of the DIY art I did for the wall. Not sure how I feel about it yet — but I’m living with it.

And on the rocking chair is a DIY rosette pillow. I used an old sheet as the fabric since I’m all about repurposing.

My bedroom is inching closer to feeling serene and comfortable. I guess it’s one of those things that will keep evolving.

Any tips on how to decorate with kids in the house?

  1. What a neat pillow! I’ve quickly realized now that all of my kids are out of school that my blog and anything that involves decorating have quickly come to a grinding halt! Hope all of you have a great summer!

  2. I love what you’ve done so far! Honestly, I NEVER would have guessed that was a roadside salvaged chair – it’s looks great! And that pillow is fabulous!! Do you have a tutorial for making one similar?

  3. Michelle,
You are doing a fabulous job! How you manage to get a blog post completed is beyond me. Your beautiful children are your greatest accomplishment and your apartment is beautiful, too. That alone makes you a huge success. I’ve written about a little girl that was living in an apartment across the street from my building. They were evicted yesterday and I will no longer see the disarray and lazy attitude of that mother. Last weekend, I gave the little girl a sliced apple with peanut butter on it at 9:00 p.m., her mother hadn’t made dinner yet. She should have been bathed and in bed at 9:00 p.m., not looking for something to eat. Very troubling.

  4. I love what you have done with this corner!!! I do a home decor blog and love to see people refurbish items for their decor. There are so many simple and quick things to do to brighten up and home decor. I applaud what you have done!!!
    Keep decorating!!!
